Discord Administrator
Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid / Remote-Friendly)

Reports To: Assistant Director of Community Affairs (or Executive Director)
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week
Position Summary
1
The Discord Administrator is responsible for the operational health, structure, and culture of the g3 Games Discord server. This includes managing server improvements, overseeing technical and organizational updates, maintaining moderation systems, and supervising the volunteer Moderators who help keep the community safe and respectful.
The Discord Administrator acts as the primary architect and steward of the server ensuring it is easy to navigate, inclusive, engaging, and supportive of positive connection. This role also handles escalations from Moderators, updates the Assistant Director of Community Affairs on major issues, and helps shape the digital expression of g3 Games’ community identity.
This is an excellent role for someone who understands online community culture, cares about safety and belonging, enjoys improving systems, and wants to help create a thriving digital home for the g3 Games community.
Key Responsibilities

Server Management & Improvements
Maintain and enhance the g3 Games Discord server’s structure, organization, and user experience.
Review and update channels, categories, roles, permissions, and automations.
Implement new features, bots, tools, or settings to improve community engagement and safety.
Conduct periodic server audits to ensure clarity, usability, and alignment with g3 Games policies.
Ensure the server reflects g3 Games’ identity, tone, and mission.
Moderator Team Leadership
Supervise Discord Moderators, providing support, coaching, and direction.
Lead moderator meetings/check-ins to align on expectations, updates, and concerns.
Manage the Moderator schedule, coverage, and onboarding/training of new moderators.
Ensure Moderators understand and follow g3 Games’ community guidelines, boundaries, and escalation protocols.
Handle escalations from Moderators and bring sensitive issues to the Assistant Director of Community Affairs when needed.
Community Safety & Culture
Uphold g3 Games’ code of conduct, community guidelines, and safety standards.
Oversee moderation systems including warnings, mutes, bans, appeals, and incident documentation.
Monitor community behavior to identify potential concerns or emerging social issues.
Work with Moderators to maintain a warm, inclusive atmosphere that encourages healthy participation.
Help ensure clear boundaries and respectful communication within all channels.
Coordination Across Teams
Work with the Membership Manager to ensure new members receive a smooth onboarding experience.
Collaborate with Communications Leads to ensure consistent messaging across announcements and updates.
Support Events and Programs teams by ensuring Discord channels reflect event calendars, sign-ups, and program activity.
Align digital community practices with broader organizational values and goals.
Documentation & Policy Management
Maintain written moderation policies, server documentation, and training materials.
Track major incidents and create summaries for leadership when needed.
Recommend updates or improvements to community guidelines, role definitions, or safety protocols.
Ensure consistent enforcement and clear communication of server rules.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Provide routine updates to the Assistant Director of Community Affairs.
Share data on member engagement, trends, concerns, or successes.
Analyze server patterns to identify opportunities to improve retention, engagement, and connection.
Contribute ideas for new channels, events, interactive features, or engagement initiatives.
Qualifications

Required
Experience moderating or managing an online community (Discord experience preferred).
Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
Understanding of online culture, community safety, and digital behavior dynamics.
Ability to lead and coordinate a team of Moderators.
Comfort using Discord’s backend tools, permissions settings, and bot integrations.
Ability to act with discretion, empathy, and professionalism when addressing sensitive issues.
Commitment to fostering inclusive, respectful, and safe community spaces.
Preferred
Prior experience in online community administration or server architecture.
Familiarity with tabletop games, community-focused environments, or play-based culture.
Experience writing guidelines, policies, or moderation documentation.
Experience with bot management, automation tools, or technical features of Discord servers.
