Assistant Director of Programs

Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid / Remote-Friendly)
Position Type: Part-Time, Volunteer Leadership Role
Reports To: Executive Director
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per week

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Programs (ADP) provides strategic, operational, and relational leadership for all g3 Games charitable and educational programs. This includes overseeing existing programs such as Play It Forward and Gather Game Grow, supporting current Program Managers, and helping design or refine future Board-approved initiatives. 

This role ensures programs are mission-aligned, scalable, high-quality, consistently delivered, and rooted in g3 Games’ play philosophy and community values. The ADP acts as a bridge between the Executive Director, Operations, Communications Leads, and Program Managers to ensure that each program is well-supported, evaluated, and sustainable. 

This is an excellent role for someone who enjoys program design, social impact, team leadership, community-building, and turning ideas into structured, repeatable systems that change lives.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and support to Program Managers. 

  • Hold consistent check-ins to discuss goals, progress, challenges, and resource needs. 

  • Review and approve program plans, calendars, curriculum, outreach strategies, and evaluation methods. 

  • Keep the Executive Director informed of activities, needs, and opportunities across all programs.

Program Strategy & Development

  • Lead the strategic planning for all charitable and educational programs. 

  • Help refine program goals, target populations, implementation models, success metrics, and impact statements. 

  • Collaborate with Program Managers to design or improve curriculum, engagement tools, activities, or play-based interventions. 

  • Evaluate potential new program ideas and prepare proposals for Board approval. 

  • Ensure programs reflect g3 Games’ values of psychological safety, connection, inclusion, playfulness, and human-first design.  

Program Implementation & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure programs are implemented consistently and effectively across all locations or cohorts. 

  • Conduct periodic program observations to assess fidelity, participant experience, and alignment with g3 Games’ philosophy. 

  • Address concerns, challenges, or incidents escalated by Program Managers. 

  • Review and approve use of materials, supplies, and curriculum adaptations. 

  • Maintain program documentation, toolkits, and standards of practice.

Cross-Department Coordination

  • Work with the Assistant Director of Operations to ensure operational and logistical needs are met (materials, data tracking, program supplies, scheduling, etc.). 

  • Collaborate with Communications Leads to make sure programs are clearly communicated and responsibly represented. 

  • Align program events and efforts with the Events Team when appropriate. 

  • Ensure Program Managers have what they need in terms of outreach, facilities, volunteer support, and visibility.

Volunteer & Staff Support

  • Partner with the Volunteer Manager to identify volunteer roles within programs and assist in recruiting, onboarding, and training as needed. 

  • Support Program Managers in developing volunteer cohorts, facilitators, or assistants. 

  • Foster an environment of growth, learning, and recognition among program volunteers.

Data, Evaluations, & Reporting

  • Support Program Managers in collecting accurate participation data and progress metrics. 

  • Review program reports to assess impact, effectiveness, and areas for improvement.

  • Assist in preparing updates for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and major stakeholders. 

  • Use data insights to help g3 Games’ programs evolve and better serve communities.

Innovation & Mission Expansion

  • Identify opportunities for new partnerships, community outreach, or collaboration with other nonprofits. 

  • Explore program scaling opportunities. 

  • Support pilot projects and ensure learnings are documented and integrated into future iterations.


Qualifications

Required

  • Strong passion for community development, social connection, education, or human well-being. 

  • Experience in program management, curriculum design, or community-based work. 

  • Leadership or supervisory experience (volunteer or professional). 

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills. 

  • Ability to think strategically and translate ideas into structured action plans. 

  • Comfort with Google Workspace, project tracking tools, and Discord. 

  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams and adapt to changing needs.

Preferred

  • Experience in nonprofits, social work, community programs, education, or mental health. 

  • Familiarity with play-based learning, tabletop games, or facilitation practices. 

  • Experience evaluating program outcomes or using feedback loops for improvement. 

  • Experience working with vulnerable or diverse populations in community settings.


Compensation

This is currently an unpaid volunteer leadership position. As g3 Games grows its funding and staffing capacity, this role may be eligible for future compensation, subject to organizational resources and Board approval.
